Each year asthma camp is staffed by a dedicated
group of medical volunteers. These volunteers include2-3 Physicians, 16-18 respiratory
therapists, 4-5 nurses, and 1-3 pharmacists, all of whom come to camp
with one goal in mind: to help kids and their families with asthma!
Many of our staff have been at camp an
average of 10 years. They generously give up their own personal time as
well as family time to spend a week with our asthmatic children!
One of the biggest goals of asthma camp is educating the children about
their lung disease. We do this in
an interactive atmosphere.We
could build lungs from play-dough, go on a “trigger” scavenger hunt or
learn to orienteer through the woods.By
the end of camp our goal is to have the children know their medications,
understand asthma, do the peak flows correctly and be able to run and
play without problems!
