Thanks for making the 2008 under the stars
dinner & auction a success!
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort
of house I lived in, or the kind of car I
drove… but the world may be different because you were important in the live of
a CHILD.
March 1, 2008 as it came in like a lion so did our “Under the
Stars” auction and dinner. This evening marked our 17th annual
dinner auction to help raise money to send economical disadvantaged children
from the United Way of Central Indiana area to summer camp. The event
brought in more friends of Happy Hollow then ever and with all these friends
being generous with their pocket books more children then ever will get the
chance to attend a week of summer camp. A great thanks goes out to our
auction chairpersons Rebecca Stoner and Debbie Koehl and their committee for the
wonderful job and presentation of this year’s event. Without them and
their dedication the auction would not have been as successful – three cheers
for them.
In kicking off the evening of events, Bernie Schrader the
Executive Director dedicated our 17th annual “Under the Stars”
auction and dinner in honor of Charlie McDonald-Zwoyer. Charlie was
on Happy Hollow’s staff during the summers of 2003, 2004, and 2005. In
2006 Charlie left us to pursue his college degree but was diagnosed later in
that year with cancer. Charlie has been battling it ever since and is
hanging in there like a trooper. His dedication, respect, concern, and
willingness to help each camper learn and respect each other and the environment
are only a few of the attributes he shared with all of us at Happy Hollow Camp.
You would never see Charlie without his campers, campers were always involved
their activities with a smile, and you could always see that kid like smile on
his face knowing he knew the kids had developed a great trust and relationship
with him. Charlie’s campers always felt he was “fair enough” with them.
From all of us at Happy Hollow Camp (campers, staff, Board of Directors, and
friends) our thoughts and prayers are with you.
